Tim Gibbes Track Timing – transponder hire. Change in policy from Tim Gibbes Track Timing for transponder useage from 31st December, 2006. For the past 6 years since we introduced our transponder timing to motor & motor cycle sport, we have been charging our services for processing results of races, qualifying etc. grids, event & series points, etc. This has been $10 + GST per competitor per day per class. We have been loaning, conditionally, free of charge to competitors, our AMB TX 260 transponders so that accurate, efficient transponder timing could be available.
Hopefully this has been achieved & transponder timing will be here to stay, obviously with upgrades in technology occurring regularly. However, we have created our own problem, in that by owning about 300 transponders (valued at about $700 each) in order to service the market, the amount of time involved in preparing each event, programming each transponder for each competitor, distributing, checking & retrieving the transponders after the event, cleaning, maintaining & repairing each unit has become far too time consuming & a task we no longer want.
Over the past 18 months, we have been asking, hinting & prompting through motorsport & motorcycling channels, competitors, teams, etc., to buy their own transponder, but regrettably this has fallen on deaf ears. Most people are aware that KartSport NZ, Moto-cross & speedway events in New Zealand and to the best of my knowledge, every other country, competitors either hire or own their own transponder. Motorsport & motorcycle road racing have had a 6 year free ride. In most other countries ALL competitors own their own transponder & the policy is no personal transponder, no entry! We have also absorbed the cost of installing & maintaining timing loops at all circuits, as well as providing the transponder mounting brackets @ $10 each. Transponders are available directly from the AMB website : www.mylaps.com >> “On Line Shop”. “Own your own” TX260 DP (direct powered from vehicle battery & use 4 milli Amps are priced at $AUD480 (please check as there was a price rise 1 January, 2007), while TX260 BP (rechargeable battery same as we are using) transponders are priced at $AUD545. (please check price as there was a price rise 1 January, 2007). By purchasing in quantities, some discounts may apply. We will help where possible, & in any case we will need the 7 digit PIN number of each transponder we will be “seeing” for timing, & to whom it’s allocated.  Direct powered permanently fitted to vehicle transponder - uses only 4 milli Amps of battery bower! Only Tranx 260 model transponders are suitable for our equipment. Lower priced models cannot be recognised at road race speeds. Having purchased an “own your own” transponder, the competitor or team can then register this with “MyLaps.com” to obtain individual lap times & other information, plus mount a photo alongside the registration to improve sponsor visibility.
When the vehicle is fitted with the correct transponder & switched on to start, the transponder is live with all the driver & vehicle details programmed into our system. An additional advantage to those with their own personal registered transponder, as their name appears on MyLaps “Live”, rather than 7 digits of figures. Also a photo or sponsor can be added. When we run “live” at events, up to date lap times are “live” too. Tier 1 series car events, all vehicles to have their own transponders from Round 1 – (Nov. 3-5), 2006. For all events already booked & confirmed until 31 December, 2006, our charges will remain the same, but all events after 1st January, 2007, the hire charge for our transponders will be $30 + GST per day per event. In other words, on the entry form there will need to have an extra piece added – a) Do you own your own AMB TX260 transponder? b) Yes – then write here your transponder pin number – 7 digits …………………………….
c) If no, transponder hire is $30 + GST per day of the event. Add appropriate fee to your entry fee. The organising club i.e. the organisation paying us - Tim Gibbes Track Timing, will be billed for the number of transponders we supply for hire at the event. The responsibility of competitors to return the transponders or pay for any damage or loss will remain, as has been in place for some years.
The peripheral services we provide such as additional lap top computers, remote printing, etc., enabling officials, announcers, media, etc. to have monitor screens, TV conversion, loading results onto “MyLaps.com” have been at our cost, & hopefully as technology becomes available, more services will be available.
Competitors & teams may now purchase their own wireless aerials & “race monitor” programme which can connect directly with our “Race Monitor” programme at events, as has been available to officials & announcers for years.
